Second Saturday Shout-out: U.S. Troops & Veterans

This Second Saturday Shout Out post is dedicated to our military troops and veterans that have bravely served our country. In the past month, we observed both Memorial Day (on May 30th) and D-Day (on June 6th). Citriclean loves and supports our troops and we appreciate the sacrifice that they make for our country and safety.

May 30th was Memorial Day which serves as a remembrance for those who have perished while serving in the military. This holiday first came to prominence after the Civil War, which claimed more lives than any other US War in history. Americans began displaying flags, decorating troops’ graves with flowers, and reciting prayers to honor those who had fallen. From there, Memorial Day blossomed as a commemoration for those who served and answered the call. Today, there are events all over the country to honor those who died in service, from parades to wreath laying to ceremonies honoring veterans from past wars.

D-Day is observed on June 6th and marks the date that the Battle of Normandy began, which ended with the liberation of northern France from Nazi Germany. This multi-force invasion, consisting of sea, land, and air forces was the largest seaborne invasion in history. This day is considered to be a turning point in World War 2, and contributed heavily to the eventual defeat of the Axis Powers.

It is important to honor our soldiers because America would not have the safety and security that we take for granted without them. These men and women lay their lives on the line so that us Americans can live the lives that we are accustomed to, one with freedom and peace.

If you want to get involved and show your support, there are multiple nonprofits that support veterans and active duty service members. The Wounded Warrior Project, for example, offers a variety of events for veterans, many of them parapelgic, that allow them to unwind and partake in recreational events with their families. There are so many other awesome charities as well that provide funding and comfort for military troops and their loved ones. You can always donate, spread awareness, or even volunteer at events hosted by these organizations. But you can also show your thanks in smaller ways by attending events that honor these brave men and women and by simply doing small acts of kindness for service members in your area.

We wanted to shout out our troops and veterans, living and deceased, because we feel like they are often not given the praise that they deserve. We thank those who have served in the military for their sacrifice and dedication to protecting freedom in America and abroad!
