Second Saturday Shout-Out: Sergeant Dingman and Office Bonebrake

This month’s shout out goes two amazing police officers in Roseburg, Oregon.

K9 Sergeant Dingman and K9 Officer Bonebrake responded to a call in a local park where Peyton, a 100lb yellow lab, decided to take a swim on a sunny day. The problem was that Peyton didn’t pick the best spot of the South Umpqua River to take a dip. The riverbank where Peyton took his leap was practically vertical— about 8 feet tall. Peyton had trouble getting back up the river bank because it was too slick and too steep. The owner’s neighbor, John Seward, was walking Peyton and had trouble himself getting the pup back on dry land. That’s when he contacted police dispatch who sent out some officers to help.

Sgt. Dingman and Officer Bonebrake SAVED THE DAY! They were able to get the struggling pup out of the river and back on land where he could catch his breath!

Mr. Seward wrote a thank you note to the police department, and ended the note with the following: “I contacted dispatch and Sgt. Dingman and Officer Bonebrake responded and helped me get Peyton up the bank. I want to acknowledge their help and I really appreciated it. Peyton does as well, although I think he enjoyed the attention!”

As someone who just adopted a 12 week old puppy last night, I am truly grateful for police who are willing to show up and get their hands dirty (literally) to help the community- including our furry family members. I encourage everyone to thank a police officer in their own community for working long and hard hours to keep us all safe!
